As you navigate among the resources provided in this website, there are several different places where you could begin. Here are some possibilities:
Family Overview. For most of the branches of our extended family, you’ll find a brief description of the origins and migration patterns. (Thus the Baileys were “from England to New England and across America.”) These pages generally report on the meaning of the surname and sometimes often provide other pertinent information. Go to Extended Family and choose a branch (surname) from the list offered at the left.
Immigrant Ancestors. We offer a list of our ancestors in each branch who were the first to arrive in the United States. Sometimes other information is available, such as the name of the ship on which they arrived and the year they came. This list can be accessed by clicking on Our Immigrant Ancestors. You’ll also find helpful links in this list.
Lines of Descent. These lists begin with the immigrant ancestor or ancestors and are brought down to the present time. The Lines of Descent for some surnames may go back to “the old country”, but the immigrant ancestor is always prominently indicated. There are links to additional information, where available, on individuals in the list. Click on Lines of Descent and select the immigrant or immigrant couple.
All in the Family. We are developing a comprehensive alphabetical listing of known ancestors with a thumbnail sketch of each person. Where known, we include a cross reference to the parents, spouse and children of each individual. This listing is organized by surname and includes dates of birth and death, where available. Go to Index of Names and select a surname. Many of the names are linked to an individual data sheet and sometimes to other information.
Famous Folks and Key Places. Our family history is far more than just a list of people from various generations. The people were real and many of their stories were fascinating. You can begin to enter their fascinating lives by clicking on A Rich History.
Individual Data Sheets. Comparable information on each person is gathered on an individual data sheet. These pages are linked together in several ways; the most comprehensive place to find these links is in the Index of Names. The individual data sheets are linked to additional information, including “bios” and “blogs”.
Photo Gallery. Finally, we are assembling historic and current pictures of members of our extended family. These will be indexed by name within Photo Gallery.
Enjoy! And help us add photos and information as we continue to develop this site.
Trees are useful images for family histories. The Family Tree includes roots, branches and shoots. In our family, as in many others, trees furnish a mental picture of the old homestead; a walnut tree planted by great-grandfather, a willow sheltered a sandbox, a stand of stately maples distinguished a property. The trees pictured here, painted by friends were used in publicity for our church. We thank the artists: David Jouard, Barbara Marin, Alvin Richter, and Catherine LeCleire.
