In the Bear Valley district school and nearby (Lone Rock?) high school.
Migration:
After their marriage, Kate and Will Ochsner moved from Bear Valley to Kimball, Brule County, South Dakota, where they staked a claim with Will’s brother, Benjamin, and began ranching and opened a general merchandise store. When the rigors of ranching were too much for Will’s health, they moved into Chamberlain, the county seat of Brule County, where Will became postmaster. As his health deteriorated, they moved to Emmetsburg, with Louise, to be near their oldest daughter Una, and where their son-in-law, Martin Ausland, purchased a home for their use at 2207 W. 8th Street in Emmetsburg. After Will’s death she and Louise moved to Los Angeles, California, making their home much of the time with a distant cousin, Della Ochsner. By that time, two daughters, Josephine Stevens and Hazel Schenk lived in Long Beach and Santa Monica, with their families. After suffering a stroke, in 1941, Kate returned to Emmetsburg where she lived with Una until her death.

Kate was not employed outside the home.
Other Activities:
After Will’s death, Kate assisted her daughters. She was a member of the Eastern Star and, after moving to Emmetsburg, a member of First Congregational Church. She enjoyed telling her grandchildren and great grandchildren stories of pioneer life in South Dakota.
