Education:
Grundy Center public schools and Cornell College, Mt. Vernon, Iowa.
Migration:
As a young boy, Samuel moved with his parents and their family from Baileyville, Illinois to Grundy County, Iowa in 1877. In 1891, he moved with his parents to Cedar Falls, Iowa, where six years later he and his brother James Levi “Lee” Bailey became partners in a hardware business. He continued to live in Cedar Falls until his death.
Occupation:
Samuel O. Bailey shared farming responsibilities with his father and brother until after he attended college and the family relocated to Cedar Falls, Iowa. At that point he and his brother conducted a successful hardware business until their father’s death in 1905 when the two brothers turned their attention to an extensive farm management and agricultural real estate, and other commercial interests. Other Activities:
Samuel Bailey was active in several Masonic orders in which he served in various capacities including as eminent commander. He was also a member of the Modern Woodmen and the Knights of Pythias. He and his wife were active members of the Cedar Falls Methodist Episcopal Church.
