Was a housewright and husbandman. Spent most of his life in East Parish (now Groveland, Massachusetts).
Bailey, James Levi (sometimes known as “J.L.,” or “Lee”), (1870 – 1956), born in Baileyville, Illinois, son of Ransom Bailey and Mary Judith Dyer Bailey; married Anna Elizabeth House Bailey; father of eight children including James Millard Bailey, Allen Ransom Bailey and Mary Emma Bailey Newton; lived in Cedar Falls and Grundy Center, Iowa; hardware and real estate merchant in partnership with his brother Samuel Orwell Bailey; farmer.

Bailey, James of Rowley (1612 – 1677), immigrant ancestor; born in Bradford, Yorkshire, England; married Lydia Emery Bailey; father of eight children including John Bailey and James Bailey Jr.; emmigrated to Rowley, Essex County, Massachusetts before 1642; became, with his son John, the Rowley pinder.
Bailey, James Jr. of Bradford (1650 - 1715), son of James of Rowley and Lydia Emery Bailey; married Elizabeth Johnson; father of seven children. Buried in the Old Cemetry of Rowley.
Bailey, John (1642 – 1668), son of James Bailey of Rowley, Massachusetts and Lydia Emery Bailey; married Mary Mighill, father of nine children including James Bailey of Bradford, Massachusetts; served as pinder in Rowley with his father; died returning from Canada while serving under General Phipps in the military expedition.
Bailey, John of Salisbury, Massachusetts (1590 - 1651) immigrant ancestor; born in Chippenham, Wiltshire, England; married Elizabeth Knight (?) who chose not to come to America; father of at least three children, including John Jr., and a daughter who accompanied their father to America. John Sr. was the first person to settle north of the Merrimac river in what became Salisbury. He was a weaver, fisherman, and sold land. With his son John (Jr.) of Newbury, was involved in a serious shipwreck off Bristol, Maine, just before arriving from England.
Bailey, John Jr., of Newbury, Massachusetts (1613 - 1693) immigrant ancestor, born in Chippenham, Wiltshire, England, came to America with his father and sister; married Elenore Emery who also was borh in England; father of thirteen children including Isaac Bailey. He was a prominent early settler of Newbury. On their voyage from England aboard the Angel Gabriel, John Jr. and his father John of Salisbury were involved in a serious shipwreck off the coast of Bristol, Maine.

Bailey, Kathryn Gunvor Ausland (1902 - 1991), daughter of Martin Ausland (1866 – 1924) and Una Lenore Ochsner Ausland (1878 – 1955); married Allen Ransom Bailey; mother of James Martin and Thomas Allen Bailey; lived in Royal, Graettinger, Grinnell, and Emmetsburg Iowa and Beaufort, North Carolina; high school English teacher.

Bailey, Levi of Bailey's Mills, Vermont (1766 – 1850), son of Samuel Bailey of Bradford, Essex County, Massachusetts, and Hannah Kittredge; married Hanna Bailey a descendant of John of Newbury, Massachusetts; father of ten children including Samuel of Bailey Mills; was a manufacturer, miller and drover; founded Bailey Mills in Reading, Windsor County, Vermont.
Bailey, Lydia Emery ( 16?? - 1704), of unknown origins, although there were Emerys who married John Bailey who settled in Newbury and his son Isaac; Lydia married James Bailey of Rowley the immigrant ancestor, mother of eight children including John Bailey.

Bailey, Mary Mighill (1649 - 1693), daughter of Deacon Thomas Mighill and Ann Parrat, of Rowley; married John Bailey, mother of nine children including James Bailey of Bradford, Massachusetts. Her parents emigrated to Rowley from England; her father was a prominent member of the Rowley settlement.
Bailey, Mary Rolfe (1708 - 1774), daughter of ?; married Samuel Bailey of Andover, Massachusetts; mother of xx children including Samuel Bailey Jr., who was killed in the Battle of Bunker Hill. Born and died in Massachusetts.

Bailey, Samuel Jr. (1728 – 1775), son of Samuel Bailey and Mary Rolf Bailey, married Hannah Kittredge, father of Levi Bailey the founder of Bailey Mills, Vermont. Lived in Massachusetts, joined Revolutionary War Minute Men; killed in the Battle of Bunker Hill.
Bailey, Samuel David (1915 - ?), son of Samuel Orwell Bailey and Grace Simpson Bailey; married Ouida Lowry; father of ? children. Was a research chemist and professor of chemistry. Lived in Cedar Falls, Iowa, and and and. Author of numerous academic papers. Took special interest in origins of the Bailey family in Bailey's Mills, Vermont.
Bailey, Samuel Orwell, (1872 - 1945), son of Ransom Bailey and Mary Dyer Bailey; married Grace Simpson; father of three children, Ransom, Samuel David, and Julia. Moved from Baileyville, Illinois, where he was born, to Grundy County, Iowa and later to Cedar Falls, Iowa, where he was a hardware merchant and later was engaged in farm management and real estate.
